Arjun Shejwal was another widely
respected player from the silsila of Nana Panse whose
lack of pretention in his playing won him many admirers. Shantha
Benegal wrote a lovely little profile of
him. One
can also hear some of his tals at musicindiaonline.
This clip is from a commercial recording that mistakenly says the tal is dhamar.
Actually, it is one version of matta (9 counts). This theka employs
the sequence "dha dhina naka dhet", from which a form
of badla hua theka (or theka ka prakar) emerges.
It is rounded off with a mohra. The effect is simple and
the playing charming. |
