Bhai Nasira was an important drummer who specialized in both the Punjabi jori and the pakhavaj. He was engaged as an accompanist for Gurmat Sangeet (Sikh religious texts performed in rag and tal) in Amritsar before Partition. Following Partition, Bhai Nasira and other members of the traditional Muslim Rababi community (a branch of the hereditary Mirasis) moved to Pakistan.
