Govndrao Burhanpurkar was a disciple of Vamanrao Chandvadkar of Hyderabad and Sakharam Pant Agle of Indore, themselves disciples of the apical nineteenth-century pakhavaj pioneer, Nana Panse of Indore. Burhanpurkar was the first pakhavaj player to receive the Sangeet Natak Akademi award in 1955. In this extremely rare clip in chautal, one senses the tremendous excitement and energy in his playing.
