Manik Munde

1960–; Kudau Singh tradition

Manik (or Mankirao) Munde is a disciple of Bhakta Ganesh Anna Chaudhari, Pandit Mahant Amarnath Mishra of Benares, and Govind Deshmukh. He is in demand as an accompanist, and since 1985 he has toured regularly with dhrupad performers (including several visits to Europe and North America). In this clip one hears the opening moments from a performance on bin in chautal: Manik Munde offers a number of improvised parans, all judiciously in proportion so as to provide interest while not distracting too much from the melody.
