Ram Ashish Pathak was the preferred
accompanist of the great dhrupad singer Ram Chatur Mallik.
His jolly and playful nature comes through in his playing, and
his sound was the most musical and sweet of all the pakhavajis I
have heard. Here, in a recording made in Vrindavan in 1984 he plays
a sequence in dhamar tal (14 counts) based on the bol "tite
kata gadi gana dha". It was common to hear him recite as he
played. |
