Shrikant Misra is
a discple of Amarnath Misra of Benares. He became a much sought-after
accompanist for dhrupad. Among others he has taught Akhilesh
Gundecha. In this excerpt from a solo in dhamar
tal (fourteen counts), one hears the clarity and balance of
his sound (particularly since the recording uses one microphone
for each drum head); he improvises for several cycles as he progresses
steadily towards a final cycle featuring a fixed mohra. |
