Anindo
Chatterjee began learning with my teacher, Afaq Hussain
Khan, early in the 1960s as a child, but then went on to learn
with Jnan Prakash Ghosh (1912-97) for over thirty years. I first
met him at house concerts in London in the mid 1970s when he
was accompanying the wonderful Nikhil Banerjee, and I enjoyed
his clarity, crispness, and musicality. All these attributes
are in abundance in his excellent solo recordings: he has a solid
storehouse of compositions, of which this tintal triple-time qaida with
variations is a good example. This comes from an undated AIR
recording.
