Anokhe Lal Misra

1914-58; Benares tradition

Anokhe Lal was a disciple of Bhairao Prasad of Benares, and he became a legend in his own lifetime both for his rigorous practice and, in particular, for his stamina in playing the tintal theka bols "na dhin dhin na". In this tintal clip, recorded just two years before his untimely death, he turns those theka bols into quasi laggis, or a kind of badla hua theka. It goes on for several more minutes.
