Swapan Chaudhuri

1947-; Lucknow tradition

Swapan Chaudhuri is one of the most complete players in India today, and a virtuoso of the highest calibre. He learned from Santosh Krishna Biswas who in turn learned from Hirendra Kumar Ganguly, who learned from Abid Hussain of Lucknow. This clip in tintal comes from a duet played with Zakir Hussain in Amravati, Maharashtra, in 1985. He embarks on a long and sparkling dhirakit rela followed by a bedam chakradar.
