hope to present some examples of interesting tabla repertoire
along with notations. For

The following is a
qaida theme by my teacher Afaq Hussain Khan of Lucknow.
It is an example of a short phrase "dhadha -dhi kita dhage dhina
ghina" that has been chopped up and repeated to form a longer structure.

Lucknow is famous for its gats, and there are many different kinds
of composition that go by that name. Below is an old and simple
composition from Lucknow that has dozens of variants and different
fingerings. Note how the cadential gat phrase "ghira naga dhinga
naga" returns, and how there is no kinar (cant)
in this piece. When repeated, only the first line is modified to
a khali statement.
